Tales of Asia

PAGODA is a love story. The founders, Raymond Engels and Betty Akiko Kimura, met in Tokyo - Japan and got married in 1953.

Two cultures came together. They wanted to show and share their love for Asia. Asian furniture, art and decoration became the passion they wanted to introduce in the West.

They founded PAGODA in 1964 and have been importing antique and unique items, arts and crafts since then.

Betty and Raymond passed on their passion to their daughter, Ingrid Engels, who joined them in 1989. Since then, PAGODA's mission, crossed more that 45 international borders.

Today, PAGODA International imports unique and antique pieces but we also upcycle, reconstruct and create beautiful Asian inspired pieces.

East meets West

PAGODA offers a remarkable collection of authentic furniture and decorative objects from China and Japan. Our pieces showcase how Asian art can harmoniously blend with Western interiors — from classic to modern design.

For over fifty years, we have traveled through regions such as Gansu, Shanxi, Shandong, Anhui, Fujian, and Tibet in search of unique finds, including pieces from the Ming and Ch’ing periods. Each item is personally selected by our CEO, Ingrid Engels, ensuring originality, quality, and timeless beauty.

Our workshop and warehouse

We combine professionalism, passion, and expertise to provide our clients with exceptional service and quality. For us, it’s not just about materials and techniques — it’s about style and authenticity.

After discovering and collecting unique Asian treasures, the process of restoration and refinement begins. Some pieces retain their original condition and receive only a fresh coat, while others are carefully adapted, with elements such as drawers, doors, shelves, or locks replaced. This ensures that the authentic story of each piece is preserved and shareable with the world.

Our designs always aim to enhance the original ‘look & feel’ of the furniture. Before shipment, every item is meticulously inspected, treated with a protective layer, and carefully packed by our skilled artisans.
